IDEA PROGRAM
Built for Creatives, by Creatives
IDEA (Innovative Digital Engineering & Arts) is a year-round STEAM program and subsidiary of GLOW. Our IDEA Program is designed to empower the youth by giving opportunities to equipping them with critical skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, fostering innovation, creativity, and readiness for the future workforce. The IDEA program directly aligns with the objectives of COYA, by providing a structured pathway into pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship opportunities, thus supporting the "Freedom to Succeed" initiative by Governor Newsom.

STEAM EDUCATION
The IDEA program is structured around five core phases: Imagine, Plan, Design, Improve, and Share. Each phase is designed to engage students deeply, allowing them to conceptualize, design, refine, and present their STEAM film projects. This year-round program includes:

IMAGINE: Conceptualization Phase
This initial phase is all about sparking creativity and envisioning the story to be told. Participants are encouraged to dream big, using their life experiences, aspirations, and the world around them as inspiration. In the context of film production, this involves brainstorming ideas, themes, and messages they wish to convey through their film. It is a time for unrestricted creativity, allowing for the exploration of various genres, stories, and characters that resonate with their vision.

PLAN:
Pre-Production Phase
Planning is where the ideas start taking a structured form. This phase covers scriptwriting, storyboard creation, and planning the logistics of the film production. Participants learn to outline their stories, develop characters, and script dialogues. They also begin to think about the technical requirements such as locations, costume design, and equipment needed for their film. This stage is crucial for setting a solid foundation for their project, involving timelines, budgeting, and assigning roles within their teams.

DESIGN:
Production Phase
In the design phase, the focus shifts to the actual creation and filming of the story. This hands-on phase involves directing, cinematography, sound recording, and acting. Participants engage in setting up scenes, capturing footage, and executing the plan they’ve developed. It is a dynamic process where creativity meets practicality, as students work together to bring their vision to life, adjusting their approach as needed to address challenges and opportunities that arise during filming.

IMPROVE:
Post-Production Phase
Post-production is where the film is edited and refined. This phase involves reviewing the footage, editing for coherence and impact, adding effects, and finalizing the audio with music and sound effects. Participants learn critical skills in editing software and techniques, focusing on how to enhance the storytelling through pacing, visual effects, and sound design. It is a phase of refinement, where feedback is welcomed and changes are made to ensure the film conveys the intended message and emotional impact.

SHARE:
Distribution Phase
The final phase is about sharing the finished film with an audience. This involves considering various platforms for distribution, such as film festivals, school events, social media, or community screenings. Participants explore marketing and promotional strategies to engage their target audience and gain visibility for their work. It is a celebratory phase that emphasizes the importance of storytelling and sharing diverse voices and perspectives through film, encouraging participants to reflect on their journey and the impact of their work.
